Eat to show yourself you care

Jun 22, 2026

In our era of ultra-processed everything, eating well is quietly becoming one of the most valuable things you can do as a form of self-respect.

Your body is not separate from your mind, and the research on the gut-brain axis is fascinating.Your gut contains around 100 million neurons and produces approximately 95% of your body’s serotonin.

This means, what you put in your body directly shapes:

  • Your neurochemistry
  • Your cognitive function
  • Your mood stability
  • Your energy levels
  • Your capacity for emotional regulation

This is biology, and you don’t just feel different when you eat well. You function differently.

The cost of convenience

Processed food, high-sugar diets, convenient cuisine, come with a cost most aren’t fully aware of, some of the concerns are that they;

  • Drive systemic inflammation
  • Disrupt the gut microbiome
  • Create blood sugar spikes and crashes
  • Impact focus, mood, and emotional stability

So you end up in a constant cycle of highs and crashes, energy, then fatigue. Focus, then brain fog. Motivation, then irritability. You can’t think clearly when your body is constantly putting out metabolic fires.

The Move

Shifting to a mindset of mostly whole foods changes more than you expect. You get;

  • Clearer thinking.
  • More consistent energy.
  • No 2pm crash.

Eating well is self-respect

Before it’s about discipline, aesthetics, or optimisation, eating well is an act of care, as you are telling your body:

  • You’re worth real fuel
  • You deserve stability
  • You don’t have to run on empty

And that message lands deeper than you expect because the way you feed yourself becomes part of the way you relate to yourself, it's psychological as well as physical.

Rediscover what you actually like

Here’s a good one…most of us don’t actually know what we like to eat.  We know what is easy, what is available and what we’ve always had, but not what actually makes us feel good.

Part of stepping into a higher standard of care is getting curious again, without restriction, but with intention.

Start to:

  • Pay attention to how different foods make you feel
  • Reintroduce simple, whole ingredients
  • Cook occasionally, even if it’s basic, and make it fun and playful
  • Notice what gives you sustained energy vs quick spikes
  • Let your body guide you, not just habit or convenience
  • Consume consciously, be aware as you eat and how it makes you feel

You don’t need to overhaul your diet overnight, but you can start by shifting one thing: considering how you choose to nourish yourself.

Choosing to eat in a way that supports your clarity, energy, and stability is powerful, and this is not just about food, but the standard you hold you, and how you treat yourself.
